These files consist of the incoming and copies of outgoing correspondence of the successive Directors of the Washburn Observatory. The material (7/4/2) relates chiefly to professional matters in astronomy. Some correspondence is devoted to normal departmental concerns, such as requests for fellowships and assistantships, but the major portion deals with research problems in astronomy and is directed to other observatories and professional astronomers. Also included is an envelope (7/4/3) containing the general files (1880) of James C. Watson.
